Although with a turtle pace but our
representative are discussing some important matters that are lingering
on for years and that also include YouTube.
Shazia Mari, an MNA from Pakistan People
Party raised voice against the ban of YouTube and presented a
resolution in the house today.
She was of the view that Government
should immediately take action and open the largest video sharing
website which is causing problems to those who seek valuable information
on internet.
The ban is effecting students and
businessmen alike and it is not serving the purpose. Shazia Mari
criticized government for delaying the issue which was of importance
from education and information sharing point of view.
Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication
Authority (PTA) Ismail Shah has also talked about the issue in favor of
lifting the ban. He mentioned that no other Islamic country has blocked the website due to blasphemous material and it is even running in Saudi Arabia
State Minister for National Health
Services Saira Afzal Tarar also supported Shazi Mari and asked to form a
committee which could find out if the ban should be lifted or not.
Saira Afzal took a similar stance that
Minister of State for Telecom and IT has already taken in various media
interactions that government cannot block all the controversial material
that is hosted on YouTube servers.
Government of Pakistan has no mechanism
for blocking any particular link on the YouTube due to a very complex
algorithm that Google use for its website.
The National Assembly passed the
resolution to open YouTube unanimously but a deadline is still awaited
as to when this ban will finally be lifted.
